This poetic dance piece explores the many dimensions of the Black Woman.
Laura Elaine Ellis is a dancer, choreographer, educator, and arts advocate. She began her training in Los Angeles with the R’Wanda Lewis Afro-American Dance Company and the Young Saints Performing Arts Academy, founded by her grandparents Evelyn Freeman and Tommy Roberts. A Mills College graduate, she was a founding member of the Mills Repertory Company before launching a dynamic career in the San Francisco Bay Area.
A principal dancer with Dimensions Dance Theater, Ellis has performed nationally and internationally, collaborating with artists like Nikki Giovanni, Hugh Masekela, and Garth Fagen. She has choreographed and taught at UC Berkeley, CSU East Bay, and Contra Costa College, specializing in African, jazz, modern, and musical theater dance.
As Executive Director of the African & African American Performing Arts Coalition, she co-produces the Black Choreographers Festival: Here & Now. A dedicated arts advocate, she serves on multiple boards supporting dance and education initiatives.
