Happy Birthday and #MayTheOddsBeEverInYourFavor to Happy Birthday and #MayTheOddsBeEverInYourFavor to today’s #MotivationalMonday, legendary author Suzanne Collins! Let’s celebrate her iconic career & also look forward to the fast-approaching release of ‘Sunrise on the Reaping,’ in theaters November 20 - the 6th film adaptation of Collins’ acclaimed works!📚 Born in Connecticut, Collins is the youngest of 4 siblings. Her father was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S Air Force, so their family moved often as Suzanne was growing up.🛩️ After graduating with an MFA in dramatic writing from the Tisch School of the Arts, Collins began her career as a writer for kids' TV shows. While working on a Kids WB show, she met children's author & illustrator James Proimos, who encouraged her to try writing books.📺 Her first book series was ‘The Underland Chronicles,’ beginning with ‘Gregor the Overlander,’ which became an NYT bestseller & sold in 21 languages worldwide. Then, in 2008, Scholastic Press published Collins’s ‘The Hunger Games’ – where 24 children are forced to fight to the death in dystopian America, with only 1 declared the winner. Since then, Collins has produced another 4 books within this universe, which have amassed over 100 million copies sold worldwide & the subsequent 5 (soon to be 6!) film adaptations have consistently excelled at the global box office, with combined earnings of over $3.3 billion.📖 The statistical success of The Hunger Games universe speaks for itself, but some of Collins's greatest impact via her creation has little to do with numerical values. The stories of The Hunger Games have taken on a life of their own in the emotional & social streams of society, becoming symbols of hope in many real-life battles against systemic oppression, questioning propaganda & fighting for what is right.💪 It takes a special type of person to create something so enduringly resounding & it takes a remarkable author for that thing to be not just one but multiple pieces of literature. Suzanne Collins is a generational talent & teacher; teaching us to take a stand, to speak up. She has & will continue to inspire a whole new lineage of authors who will WRITE for what is RIGHT.✍️💜 #LAWTF #WomenInTheArts

What better way to celebrate the first #Motivation What better way to celebrate the first #MotivationalMonday in August than with a woman making her Broadway debut on this very day? Join #LAWTF as we congratulate & celebrate Disney icon and very-soon-to-be Broadway leading lady, China Anne McClain!🎭

McClain comes from a family of performers. Her dad is a music producer, her mom is a songwriter & former screenwriter, and her siblings are all multi-hyphenate creatives in their own right. China was just 7 years old when a music executive heard her sing & urged director Rob Hardy to audition her for his film ‘The Gospel.’ Less than a year later, she was cast in Tyler Perry’s ‘House of Payne’ as Jazmine, a role she then played for 20 years! In the late 2000s, she also appeared in projects such as ‘Hannah Montana’ & ‘NCIS.’🎬 In 2011, China was cast as the lead for the Disney Channel series ‘A.N.T. Farm.’ In fact, creator Dan Signer suited the show & role specifically with China’s musical talent in mind. She sang, composed & co-wrote the show’s theme song & her cover of Taio Cruz’s song ‘Dynamite,’ recorded for the pilot episode, got over a million views in a matter of days. In more recent years, China’s time as the fierce & fabulous Uma in Disney’s ‘Descendants’ movies has seen her become a fan favorite among the franchise, with her character’s debut number, ‘What’s My Name,’ deemed by critics & fans alike as one of the best songs in the films & China’s singing lauded as “scene-stealing.”🎶

Those powerhouse vocals & innate musical ability will no doubt serve her well as she makes her Broadway debut later this evening, taking over the role of Daisy Buchanan in ‘The Great Gatsby’ from musical theater star & previous #MotivationalMonday spotlight, Eva Noblezada! Her casting was met with a buzz of enthusiasm from fans, with China herself saying she was “so excited” at the opportunity. China Anne McClain may have been born with an innate gift for performing, but the work ethic evident from a very young age is nothing short of mind-blowing, making her not only a role model to her fans but also the younger talents she works with. #LAWTF hope that she & all her fellow cast members break a leg tonight!💫 #WomenInTheArts
