It’s a new #MotivationalMonday & our first spotlig It’s a new #MotivationalMonday & our first spotlight of #BlackHistoryMonth! Throughout February, #LAWTF will highlight inspiring & talented Black women – from industry legends to emerging stars who all exemplify their own kind of #BlackExcellence. Today, it’s Broadway icon & leading lady, Audra McDonald! 🖤✨🎭 Born in Germany & raised in Fresno, California, Audra grew up surrounded by music. Both her parents were pianists & singers, plus five of her aunts were ‘The McDonald Sisters,’ a gospel quintet that toured the West Coast in the 70s. Audra began vocal lessons at a young age & also joined the junior company of the local theatre group, the Good Company Players. Even as a child, she said those experiences showed her that theatre was what she wanted to do most. After attending Roosevelt School of Arts, she studied at Juilliard in NYC, and just one year after graduating at age 23, Audra won her first Tony Award – Best Featured Actress in a Musical - for her work as Carrie Pipperidge in ‘Carousel.’ 32 years & 5 more awards later, Audra has the most Tony wins in history, regardless of gender or race – proving what talent, devotion & love for one’s craft can achieve, and Audra has truly done it all. From the stage to the screen, she has portrayed icons, mothers, leaders & survivors – and from Billie Holiday to Grace Farrell, she handles each role with a performer’s discipline & a storyteller’s heart. 🎶💛 Knowing the power of her platform, Audra says, “I’ve always used my voice to call attention to issues that I thought were important,” & she has always backed that up with action. In 2020, Audra joined other Broadway stars to raise awareness of voter ID requirements & also helped launch ‘Black Theatre United,’ an organization meant to inspire reform & combat systemic racism throughout the theatre community & the nation. Audra McDonald is a true #SHEro – gifted, gracious & driven to give back. In her own words, “Any time I can use my voice to raise awareness for different organizations and charities and social justice, then I am going to do it; it makes performing more special when I can do something that benefits other people.” 💜💪🏿✨ #WomenInTheArts #StrongWomen

It’s #MotivationalMonday, and we are #HappierThanE It’s #MotivationalMonday, and we are #HappierThanEver to shine our spotlight on singer & songwriter Billie Eilish! Today marks 6 years since Billie won her first Grammys, so let’s look at what led up to that historic night & her myriad successes since… ✨ Born in Los Angeles, Billie grew up around artistry. Both her parents were actors & musicians, and being homeschooled with her brother Finneas, she could prioritize creative pursuits. She joined the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus at age 8 & trained as a dancer until her mid-teens, when a hip injury shifted her focus solely to music. At just 13, Billie recorded her brother's song "Ocean Eyes," and they uploaded it to SoundCloud. The track quickly went viral, drawing industry attention to Billie & Finneas. Billie’s breakout year came in 2019. Her debut album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”, was released in March & topped charts in over 10 countries. Her song “Bad Guy” became the album’s leading track, reaching No. 1 by August & dethroning Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” from its record-breaking run. 🎶 The album's global success led Billie to dominate the 2020 Grammys. At 18, she won Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year & Best Pop Vocal Album, becoming the youngest artist ever to win Album, Record & Song of the Year and the youngest to sweep all major categories. She’s since won 4 more Grammys, 2 Golden Globes & 2 Oscars to name a few. Even with her triumphs, Billie is often praised for staying grounded, humble & true to herself. She openly discusses her struggles with depression & anxiety, as well as her Tourette’s syndrome diagnosis. She’s also hugely vocal about body autonomy, advocating for healthier conversations about body image in the industry. Her strength of character & how she can express it in her music are part of what makes her such an inspiration to so many young artists waiting in the wings & to young girls who need a strong, positive role model. 🎶💙 Billie Eilish is many things. A record-breaker. A unique, open-hearted artist. A deeply passionate advocate. And proof that the future of the music industry is very bright indeed. ✨ #LAWTF #WomenInTheArts
Today’s #MotivationalMonday celebrates Tracy Chapm Today’s #MotivationalMonday celebrates Tracy Chapman, singer, songwriter & music sensation. With over 40 years of timeless folk, rock & blues music, hop into a #FastCar and join us in honoring this legendary artist! 🎸🎶 Born in Ohio in 1964, Chapman showed an early love for music, playing guitar & writing her songs by age 8. Due to her parents' divorce & facing bullying and racial discrimination, she became very reserved. Her awareness of issues such as class & racial inequality turned inward, becoming a strong yet contained sense of emotional insight – qualities evident in her music. 💙 Sponsored by ‘A Better Chance,’ Chapman graduated from Wooster School in Connecticut before studying anthropology and African studies at Tufts University in Massachusetts. At Tufts, she maintained her love of music, busking at local spots like Harvard Square. In 1985, Chapman opened for Linda Tillery at Boston’s Strand Theatre. A fellow Tufts student snuck a demo to his father, Charles Koppleman, a music producer and businessman. By 1986, he signed Chapman to SBK Publishing, and in 1987, helped her secure a contract with Elektra Records, which produced her debut album, ‘Tracy Chapman’, within a year to critical acclaim. In the 40 years since, Chapman has released 8 albums and 2 compilations. Nominated for 13 Grammys, she won 4, including 3 for her debut album featuring the beloved hit, ‘Fast Car.’ Although she stepped back from frequent releases and touring in the 2010s, Chapman still appears at select events related to causes she supports—such as human rights and social justice—though she has never sought acclaim for her work at benefit concerts and tribute events. Maintaining a deliberate separation between her private & professional lives has enabled Chapman to redefine the idea of performing with purpose. She does not seek celebrity, excessive fame, or notoriety – instead, she produces work she loves and uses it to drive actionable change in the world we live in. In Tracy’s own words, “I basically try to do what I can.” Ultimately, that’s all any of us can really do – so #LAWTF will keep producing art & trying to do what we can. 🎶💙 #womeninthearts #thestrengthwecarry
On this day, January 19, 2026, we celebrate the le On this day, January 19, 2026, we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A leader of the Civil Rights Movement, King's impact on United States history will never be forgotten. He played a central role in the fight for racial equality during the 1950s and 1960s. He advocated for nonviolent protest as a powerful tool to challenge segregation and discrimination. King helped lead major moments of the Civil Rights Movement, including the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the Birmingham Campaign, and the 1963 March on Washington, where he delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. His leadership contributed to the passage of landmark legislation such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which outlawed segregation and protected voting rights for Black Americans. Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and recommit to the power of storytelling as a force for empathy, visibility, and change. #MLK #MartinLutherKingDay
It’s #MotivationalMonday time! Don’t let those Jan It’s #MotivationalMonday time! Don’t let those January blues drag you down – come & celebrate another amazing woman in the arts. Today’s #spotlight is Emma Myers, an actor, model & rapidly rising star. ✨ Born in Florida in 2002, Emma’s natural creativity was actively encouraged by her family. By age 8, she was doing commercial shoots & auditions, and in 2010, she appeared in her first television roles. Since 2020, Emma has worked non-stop in film & TV. In 2021, she starred as Marie Cody in the Lifetime film ‘Girl in the Basement,’ a true-crime movie based on the experiences of Elisabeth Fritzl. Emma earned praise for her natural, emotionally charged scenes & being able to handle dark material so young. Recently, many fans and critics revisited her performance as Marie, noting it as an early sign of her affinity for emotional realism & serious roles. Emma’s catapult into the spotlight came in 2022, when she exploded onto our screens as the young werewolf, Enid Sinclair, the perfect foil to Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams. The show is one of Netflix’s most-watched of all time, and Emma’s performance as Enid – bright, emotionally open & unapologetically kind – was widely praised for subverting many ‘bubbly sidekick’ stereotypes. Her effortless charm made her an instant fan-favorite. 🖤🕷️ Most recently, she’s also led the cast of ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ – adapted from the bestselling YA book series, with its second series expected this Spring. Despite her meteoric rise, Emma receives much admiration for staying grounded, emotionally sincere, and kind and approachable to her co-stars and the public, despite the chaos that can surround such beloved stars. Emma Myers may be young, but she proves that age need not be a barrier to success, nor should it prevent us from knowing who we are & staying true to ourselves. Emma has a gift for portraying characters who balance joy and kindness with strength and emotional intelligence, qualities she herself seems to exude in spades. And whether through her beloved characters or the young woman herself, those are qualities we should all strive to embrace. 💜✨ #womeninthearts #Wednesday #strengthinkindness
