The stage might be a little quieter this summer, b The stage might be a little quieter this summer, but the creative process never stops. 🎭✨ As artists and performers, we often measure our progress by the applause and the final production. But some of the most profound artistic growth happens in the quiet—when we choose curiosity over perfection, replenish our creative wells, and make time to rest. Whether you are writing your first solo show, heading back to school, or simply looking to reconnect with your artistry, this season is full of possibility. 👉 Read our latest blog post for a gentle reminder on why caring for yourself is the ultimate investment in your craft: Read the full post at lawtf.org/blog/ #LosAngelesWomensTheatreFestival #LAWTF #SoloPerformance #WomensTheatre #CreativeProcess #ArtistsOfInstagram #SummerInspiration #TheatreLife #Storytelling #NurtureYourCraft

We’re bringing a touch of royalty to today’s #Moti We’re bringing a touch of royalty to today’s #MotivationalMonday Our spotlight is a #Queen of stage & screen who’s ruled everything from voodoo to rock 'n’ roll to Wakanda! Join #LAWTF in bowing down to the iconic Angela Bassett!👑 Born in 1958 in NYC, growing up, Bassett was a stellar student, a cheerleader, part of the debate team, choir, student government & drama club! She was the first African American student from her school to be admitted into the National Honor Society & went on to earn both a BA and a Masters degree from Yale.🎓 Bassett made her Broadway debut in ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,’ her first TV appearance & her first film all within 3 years. In the 4 decades since, she’s racked up more than 100 further screen credits, as well as directing & producing on various projects. Angela is renowned for playing powerful Black women who made history. Giving new life to the likes of Rosa Parks & Tina Turner, Angela treats every role with a reverence that’s almost palpable. When asked why she’s so often drawn to these roles, she said it's "the respect that I have for their lives—their stories, vulnerabilities, strength, and resolve.”💪🏽 The qualities she’s drawn to in a character, Bassett has carried over into her extensive philanthropic work, especially as a celebrity ambassador for the American Heart Association & the American Diabetes Association's initiatives “Know Diabetes by Heart” and “For Your SweetHeart” – aiming to help people with diabetes & manage the link to cardiovascular disease. Angela’s mother died of heart failure in 2014 & Bassett is a powerful advocate for the improvement of health & healthcare, in honor of her late mother and the values she instilled in her daughters.❤️ Angela Bassett is widely considered one of the finest actresses of her generation. The prolific nature of her career is perhaps only matched by the care in which she has crafted it. Whether portraying real-life historical heroes or the Queen of Wakanda, Bassett treats them all with the utmost respect & dedication, giving powerful female role models to multiple generations of viewers and, just maybe, a few Queens & history-makers of the future.✨ #WomenInTheArts
